A board chair elevates and inspires the entire board and management team.  They set the tone for discussions and help craft the agendas that structure these discussions. They are a leader, coach, mentor, facilitator, strategist, and listener.  No depth of knowledge and experience in the business will compensate if the chair is lacking in these abilities and skills.
